Wouldn't It Be Nice To Get On With My Neighbours

Saints bring the curtain down on their 2015-16 season with an Argyll Derby against old rivals Campbeltown Pupils at Kintyre Park, Campbeltown this afternoon. While Saints have been gently winding down their Scottish Amateur League Premier Division campaign for several weeks now the Pupils have been engaged in a fascinating battle for survival at the foot of the league table with Alba Thistle. An away win yesterday at last season's Champions St Joseph's sets the Pupils up nicely for today's match where a win for the Kintyre men could be enough to secure their survival. However there is still the question of the unfulfilled fixture against Goldenhill on 28th May which will be subject to a committee decision so nothing less than a win will do for Pupils today. Saints last defeat at Kintyre Park came at the back end of the 2008-09 campaign when the teams were in remarkably similar positions. Unfortunately for Pupils the 3 - 2 win over their Argyll rivals wasn't enough the keep them in the Premier Division on that ocassion with only one win from their final three matches seeing them join Duncanrig FP in dropping into Premier Division One.

It took Pupils five seasons to fight their way back to the the top division and in the most recent league fixtures between the old rival Saints have prevailed on all three occassions. The incentive for a Pupils victory is clear but Saints desire to maintain local bragging rights will ensure a full bloodied encounter in front of what is sure to be a bumper Kintyre Park crowd.
