Farewell To Our Friend Jimmy Soutar

This week the Scottish Amateur football community turned out in huge numbers to join the family and friends of Jimmy Soutar in celebrating the life of one of the amateur game's leading lights.

Jimmy was sadly taken away on Christmas Eve at the age of seventy one after a brief but brave fight against pancreatic cancer.

A vast crowd attended Wednesday afternoon's funeral service at Linn Crematorium, Glasgow indicative of the extremely high regard in which Jimmy was held.

Jimmy was a great friend to Oban Saints over the years and a long standing committee member representing the club for many years during our time with the Scottish Amateur Football League, which he also served in a number of roles including President, and more recently with the Central Scottish Amateur Football League.

The club was represented at the funeral service by Secretary David Buchanan, Co-Manager Willie Gemmell and the club's most senior player Ross Maitland. Both Willie and Ross were among a number of Saints players who proudly represented the Scottish Amateur Football League Select under Jimmy's stewardship with Willie having the great honour of being named captain.

Jimmy's knowledge and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by all at Oban Saints and by his  many friends in Scottish amateur football.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Jimmy's wife and family.

Rest In Peace Jimmy.
