Oban Saints second string's slender hopes of progressing from the Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League President's League Cup group stages suffered another setback at Oban High School last Saturday.

Following a good start against runaway group section leaders Colquhoun United the hastily put together Saints GG side were good value for their early lead courtesy of a Paul Carmichael strike.

Manager Donald Black was forced to make a change when Nathan Allan was unable to continue after just twenty five minutes his place being taken by Jay Cooper.

Cooper was one of a number of players coming in at short notice with no game time in the tank and as the half progressed the visitors gained the upper hand going in at the interval ahead by the odd goal in three.

A disastrous start to the second half saw Saints GG gift wrap three goals inside the first ten minutes putting the Bearsden based visitors on easy street.

The home side kept battling away but couldn't find the goal needed to kick start a comeback. Thomas McCrindle narrowly failed to connect with an excellent free-kick delivery from the left foot of Daniel MacCuish and Paul Carmichael struck the woodwork with a left foot volley but that was as close as it got for Saints GG resplendent in their new change kit sponsored by Soroba House Bar and Restaurant.

Saints GG have no fixture this coming Saturday and Manager Donald Black will hope to use the free week to muster his troops ahead of the impending Division 3A campaign.
