After reaching the last sixteen of the Scottish Amateur Cup with a 3 - 2 away win against Kilbride Thistle at Kilwinning Sports Club last Saturday, Saints will attempt to reach the same stage of the West of Scotland Amateur Cup this Saturday at Glencruitten.

Saturday's visitors, Woodhall Thistle, hail from Holytown, North Lanarkshire and play their home fixtures at the Keir Hardie Sports Centre where Saints recently defeated East Kibride Rolls Royce in the fifth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup.

After many successful years as members of the sadly now defunct North and South Lanarkshire Amateur Football Association, Thistle took the decision in 2016 to depart for the Caledonian League. They did so with back to back league and cup doubles adorning an already well laden trophy cabinet putting them in ebullient mood for the new season.

Woodhall Thistle kicked off their Caledonian League adventure with a creditable eighth placed finish in the fiercely competitive Division 1A.

Results in this season's Division 1B have been mixed where fourteen points from eleven matches sees Thistle currently in fourth place four points behind leaders and current West of Scotland Amateur Cup holders Cambria but with two games more played.

On the domestic cup front Thistle have failed to progress beyond the first round stage of both the William Turner and Douglas Smith cups. A third placed group section six behind group winners Broomhouse and runners up Giffnock North ended Thistle's interest in the Douglas Smith Cup back in August. In the first round of the William Turner Cup four weeks ago a 3 - 1 home defeat to fellow Division 1B side Stenhousemuir Community left Thistle to concentrate their domestic attentions on the Division 1B title race where, with nine fixtures remaining, a promotion place still remains as realistic target.

In the 'major' cup competitions after a first round bye a heavy second round defeat to Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur Football League Premier Division high fliers East Dunbartonshire brought to a swift close any hopes Thistle harboured of an extended Scottish Amateur Cup run.

The West of Scotland Amateur Cup however has proved to be an entirely happier hunting ground where a gathering momentum has taken Thistle to this Saturday's fifth round tie against Oban Saints. Following another first round bye Thistle emerged victorious from their only away tie so far after putting eight goals past Crown Athletic of Glasgow Colleges Football Association Division Two. It was back to home territory for round three where visitors Ochiltree Community of the Ayrshire Amateur Football Association Second Division were dispatched by five goals to two. The fourth round saw another impressive home victory for Thistle this time over Stanley Athletic of the Paisley and District Amateur Football Association Premier Division.

Saturday's tie at Glencruitten must be played to a finish on the day with extra-time and penalty kicks coming into play to decide the winner if the two sides cannot be separated after ninety minutes. Taking charge of proceedings is experienced Dunbartonshire whistler James Gallacher.

The prize for the winners is an away tie against either Shortlees of the Ayrshire Amateur Football Association Premier League or Milton of the Caledonian League Premier Division.
