Having taken two attempts to get past a very good Falkirk Community side in the third round of the Scottish Amateur Cup Oban Saints face another difficult task this Saturday when they travel to Easterhouse to face Red Star in the fourth round of the West of Scotland Amateur Cup.

With six Premier Division titles to their name Red Star have been a major force in the Glasgow and District Saturday Morning League for many years and continue to represent their league with distinction in the major cup competitions.

Red Star have also fared well in their "domestic" cup competitions recently picking up League Cup trophies in each of the last two seasons.

Red Star made a slow start to the 2017-18 season losing their opening two League Cup Qualifying Competition matches and exiting the Scottish Amateur Cup at the hands of Ayrshire Second Division Craigie before their league campaign had even started. However better fortune has come in the West of Scotland Amateur Cup where a resounding second round away win at Eastwood Parkmount 'B' of the Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Division Two was followed by a very impressive extra-time victory over Balmore of Caledonian League Division 1A.

Since getting their season back on track Red Star have notched their first victory in the League Cup Qualifying Competition thumping Bishopton 11 - 1 which, together with a walkover from the unfulfilled fixture against Kings Park Rovers, was enough to land a second round away tie against Glasgow Islay.

Red Star have also embarked on an unbeaten run in the Glasgow and District Saturday Morning League Premier Division. Wins against Hamilton Wanderers and AFC Columba, together with an odd goal in five victory over league leaders FC Drumchapel, gave Red Star maximum points going into last Saturday's home fixture against Finnieston Park. In a thrilling encounter Finnieston Park staged a late comeback from 3 - 1 down to lead 4 - 3 going into stoppage time. Red Star however had the final say grabbing an equaliser with the last kick of the ball to lift them to fourth spot in the table with ten points from four games.

Saints will have to be at their best if they are to prevail against a very capable Red Star side who will be desperate to follow up their third round success against Caledonian League opposition with another notable scalp.

Saturday's tie at Lochend Sports Centre must be played to a finish on the day with extra-time and penalty kicks coming into play to decide the winner if the two sides cannot be separated after ninety minutes.
