The Scottish Amateur Football Association Challenge Cup Competition
3rd Round Replay
Oban Saints AFC v Falkirk Community AFC
Glencruitten 2
Mossfield Avenue
Oban
Argyll PA34 4EH
Kick off 1.30pm
Referee Mr Anthony McCann
Following last week's six goal thriller at Alva Academy, Oban Saints and Falkirk Community go head to head once again this Saturday at Glencruitten for a place in the Scottish Amateur Cup fourth round. The prize for the victors is an away trip to two time Scottish Amateur Cup winners Greenock High School Former Pupils on Saturday 2nd December. If last Saturday's match is anything to go by then the Glencruitten faithful are in for a treat as the two evenly matched sides battle it out for third round supremacy. The tie must be decided on the day therefore extra-time and penalty kicks will come into play if the two sides cannot be separated after ninety minutes.
Formerly Polmont and then Polmont Community, Saturday's opposition left the Stirling and District Amateur Football League for the Central Scottish Amateur Football League at the end of last season. Prior to the start of the 2017-18 season a deal was struck for a re-branding as Falkirk Community and for the club to take on the mantle of the amateur representatives of Falkirk FC which the club were naturally delighted to accept.
The Bairns currently occupy second top spot in the extremely competitive Central Scottish Amateur Football League Division 1A with fourteen points from their opening eight fixtures. So far only two time East of Scotland Amateur Cup winners Steins Thistle and last season's Bunrigh Trophy League Cup winners Possil YMCA have managed to take maximum points from the Bairns with the Possil defeat coming as recently as Wednesday night. In a rearranged fixture at Glasgow Club Milton played in horrendous weather conditions two second half goals without reply saw Possil continue their recent resurgence after a poor start to the league campaign. Despite those two reverses, wins against Mill United, Clydebank, Stirling City and league leaders Uddingston Anvil keep Falkirk very much in the promotion hunt at this early stage in the league season.
In their domestic cup ties so far Falkirk have already exited the Cinema Cup losing out in a seven goal thriller at home to Division 1A Blantyre RGM. Their League Cup hopes also look to be hanging by a thread after Group Section Two defeats to Steins Thistle, Gartcosh United and Premier Division Eastfield.
In the major cup competitions the Bairns have safely negotiated the regional Scottish Amateur ties to book their place in the third round. After narrowly squeezing past Lothian and Edinburgh Championship side Musselburgh Windsor Falkirk had a considerably easier time in the second round away at Edina Hibs. The LEAFA Intermediate League (the lowest of the five divisions) outfit were no match for the Bairns who ran out comfortable 9 - 0 winners in Edinburgh.
It was also Lothian and Edinburgh Intermediate League opposition for Falkirk in the East of Scotland Amateur Cup. Following a first round bye Sporting Saughton were comfortably dispatched 10 - 0 at the Falkirk Community Stadium.
